Introduction
FogIndex ("FogIndex," "we," "us," or "our") operates the FogIndex web application and related services. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and your choices.
Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to information processed through FogIndex websites, applications, APIs, emails, and related services.
Information We Collect
1) Account and Identity Data
When you create or use an account, we may collect:
- Name/display name
- Email address
- Authentication provider and account identifiers (managed through Firebase Authentication)
- Account metadata such as creation time and verification status
2) Subscription and Billing Metadata
If you use paid features or trials, we may store:
- Plan name, subscription status, trial dates, forecast/location limits
- Stripe customer/subscription metadata (for example customer ID, price ID, billing interval)
Payment card details are processed directly by Stripe and are not stored by FogIndex.
3) Location and Forecast Configuration Data
To provide forecasts, we store:
- Saved location information (name, coordinates, timezone, terrain preferences)
- Alert thresholds and notification preferences
- Location-level settings (for example active/inactive and digest inclusion)
If you choose "Use Current Location," your browser may share precise location with us, subject to your device/browser permissions.
4) Notifications and Feedback Data
We collect and process:
- Notification preferences (for example alerts enabled, digest enabled, quiet hours)
- Email notification data needed to deliver alerts, digests, and feedback prompts
- Feedback responses submitted through one-click email links (including response type, click time, and optional user-agent string)
- If you use Field Check-In in the app, we may collect optional browser geolocation (with your permission) to rank nearby locations and record proximity metadata with your response
5) Technical and Usage Data
We may collect:
- Basic request/log metadata for security, reliability, debugging, and abuse prevention
- Rate-limit counters tied to your account for protected endpoints
- Product analytics events (for example sign-up/sign-in, location actions, page usage) via Google Analytics when enabled
- Essential cookies or browser storage used for session/authentication behavior and beta-access gating
Sources of Information
We collect information directly from you, automatically from your use of the Service, and from integrated providers.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide forecasts and app functionality
- Deliver alerts, digests, account emails, and feedback workflows
- Enforce plan limits, subscription entitlements, and rate limits
- Process billing-related account state
- Monitor performance, prevent abuse, and improve product quality
- Respond to support requests and communicate service updates
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms

Open-Meteo
Weather forecast data used by fog scoring. Typically receives location coordinates.
Tomorrow.io
Supplemental fog/weather signal data (used for supported plan paths). Receives location coordinates.
NOAA / National Weather Service (NWS)
Official fog advisory data. Receives location coordinates.
Resend
Transactional email delivery. Receives recipient email and email content metadata.
Stripe
Subscription checkout, billing, and customer portal services. Stripe processes payment details directly.
Google Maps Platform (Maps, Places, Geocoding)
Map display, place autocomplete/search, and reverse geocoding support.
Google Analytics
Product usage analytics and event measurement.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
FogIndex uses essential cookies/browser storage for core product behavior (for example authentication/session handling and beta access). If analytics is enabled, Google Analytics may set cookies or similar identifiers.
Data Retention
We retain information as long as needed to provide the Service, comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and maintain security and backup controls.
When you request deletion, we will delete or anonymize applicable personal data within a reasonable timeframe, subject to legal, security, backup, and fraud-prevention requirements.
Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International Data Transfers
FogIndex is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., information may be transferred to and processed in the U.S. and other jurisdictions where providers operate.
Your Choices and Rights
- Update account and notification settings in the app
- Use unsubscribe/manage-preferences links in FogIndex emails
- Request access, correction, deletion, or export of your data by contacting support@fog-index.com
- Where applicable, object to/restrict certain processing, withdraw consent, and lodge complaints
We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling privacy requests.
U.S. State Privacy Notice
FogIndex does not sell personal information or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under certain U.S. state privacy laws.
Children's Privacy
FogIndex is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
